but I did enjoy some kickball yesterday. The World Adult Kickball Association has teams in many states and yesterday was the preseason game for the FL Fuego division at Jose Marti Park here in Miami. Regular season starts next week, but you can still sign up for a team.

“For years, Kansas State students have smuggled live chickens into basketball games against Kansas, then thrown them onto the court and behind the opposing bench before tip-off - mocking their rival’s Jayhawk mascot.
But an animal rights group objected to the mistreatment of chickens, and the school issued an open letter to fans this week calling for an end to the practice.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals responded to the latest incident during a game Feb. 19 by sending a letter to university president Jon Wefald. The letter described chickens as “very intelligent and inquisitive animals” that appeared to have been subjected to “deafening noise, bright lights, terror, abusive handling and likely death for the sake of amusement.”
I’m not so concerned with what happens to the chickens during the prank, chickens are tough, but would they starve to death on the streets of Manhatten, Kansas afterwards?

The paperback version of Game of Shadows comes out this week. It includes a new afterword which details Barry Bonds’ freakish growth, size changes include:
42 to size 52 jersey
10.5 to size 13 cleats
7 1/8 to 7 1/4 cap, even though he had taken to shaving his head
As Tom Verducci writes “baseball remains hostage to the ill will Bonds generates…the stench of stagnation is everywhere.” Progress may come in the form of Bonds be indicted for perjury in the next six months.

And definitely don’t expect to walk out with it. Mission accomplished though, the ensuing chaos must have been a great ‘visual effect’!
“Police seized $81,020 in cash belonging to Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones, money they said sparked a melee and a triple shooting at a strip club over the weekend.
Jones was showering more than 40 strippers onstage at Minxx Gentlemen’s Club & Lounge early Monday with the cash “intended as a visual effect,” according to a search warrant. But a scuffle broke out when the Houston promoter who hired the strippers told them to pick the money up.”

What took this so long to be invented? Holds up to 35 golf balls and doesn’t require a power source.

A German paraglider was encased in ice and blacked out after a storm carried her to a height greater than Mount Everest. Somehow she safely landed after being unconscious for an hour!

Seems like the only skateboards I see these days are used as an art canvas (or in a Tony Hawk videogame). I guess I’m not crazy, there’s a whole book on the subject.

In NYC Sunday-Wednesday for a little break from the perfect weather Miami is having. One plus though, outdoor ice skating….and I didn’t fall once!

Considering they allow it for all regular season Dolphins game, something is odd here. Maybe it’s a ploy to keep the parking lot from filling up with people who don’t have tickets. Either way, it’s an easy way to piss off fans.

Apparently Miami weed is so good, you can’t leave Florida without some!
“The plastic bottle had a secret compartment that, when opened, had a dark residue and a pungent odor of marijuana.”
Actually sounds like it may be hash. Otherwise, I’m not sure why he’d risk carrying an empty, but used, stash container through the airport.

Slip on the Thumb Thing to make holding open pages more comfortable. It also keeps the spine of the book from being broken, increasing that amazon or ebay resell value. To complete the triple threat, it also acts as a bookmark.
update: here’s a similar product for shooting pool. (via seihin world)

This aluminum bundt pan bakes a cake in the shape of a stadium.
And when your team loses, you can cut up the stadium with this rad saw cake knife.
