Tonight the Carnival Center in Miami hosted ‘Split Sides’ a dance performance featuring music from Sigur Ros (live) and Radiohead. At the start of the performance a die was rolled to see determine choreography, music, costumes, backdrops, and lighting. A total of 32 possible combinations. With only two choices for each category, I’m not sure why they didn’t just flip a coin. Maybe for the symbolism of ‘rolling the bones.’ Either way, a decent concept for changing up the show. In practice however one backdrop clearly seemed to be for Radiohead and the other for Sigur Ros. I also thought the black and white costumes would have went better with the backdrop displayed during Sigur Ros set instead of the colored costumes.
Here are some photos from the original 2003 version.
The initial Bonnaroo 2007 lineup was released Wednesday and it looks like I’ll be going again. This would make 5 of 6 for me (I skipped 2005). Hard to pass up all these bands that I would see individually if they came to town:
The Police
Wilco
Ween
Tool
The White Stripes
Kings of Leon
Ratdog
Manu Chao
Franz Ferdinand
Junior Brown
Wolfmother
The Flaming Lips
North Mississippi Allstars
Hot Tuna
Spoon
Cold War Kids
David Cross
Lasse Gjersten can’t play the drums or piano, but after banging on a set of drums and hitting single keys, he edits it all together to create a continuous song.

What is this American Idol rip-off? Vote for who sings with Timberlake?! Lame CBS. Even more lame to drag it out over the entire broadcast. Surprised they squeezed in 10 seconds for The Grateful Dead’s lifetime achievement award. Jesus Christ, Rascal Flats just came on, Bob Wills is rolling over in his grave.
These youtube clips have me excited for The Best of the Muppet Show dvds to arrive from Netflix. The first clip is probably my favorite. Animal was based on Keith Moon, but they appropriately have his jaw drop in awe of Buddy Rich.
Here’s various music clips from the show:
Buddy Rich vs Animal drum solo
Much more creative than a titty flash. And with waaay better music!
here’s the video

Since Lost has jumped the shark (despite the votes here), this “new” campy 80’s theme song is perfect.
Looks great, but as gizmodo says:
$180, available summer 2007.
The first female speaker of the house had a $1000 per ticket party kicking things off with members of the Grateful Dead, Phish, Tony Bennett, Wyclef Jean and others.

Churchills pub and Sweat Records in Miami had a craft fair/concert Friday night. I picked up a few wallets from Tiny Meat, including the one above.
HackingRoomba.com presents this demo for RoombaMidi2, a program to turn your Roomba into a MIDI instrument. Check out their covers of ‘Frosty the Snowman’ and ‘dreidel’
I listen to David Bowie and Bing Crosby sing ‘Little Drummer Boy’ every holiday season on The Edge of Christmas cd I own, but never knew this song was from a 1977 Bing Crosby special. In addition to checking out this video, I highly recommend getting a copy of the Edge of Christmas.
Not to spoil the song, but I can see how Bing could be the huge asshole he had the rep of being.
