Mario is still the man

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

A coincidence he looks like Ron Jeremy? Anyway, Mario Galaxy is amazing. I had my doubts, but they were erased within 5 minutes of popping the game in my Wii. Then Bee Mario? Over the top!

To celebrate, here’s a video of the evolution of Mario all the way through Mario Galaxy (although they could have included some boss footage). AND a cool poster of the History of Power-ups, although it doesn’t include Mario Galaxy:

LucasArts to Unleash the Force on the Wii in Spring 2008

The Wiimote will act as your lightsaber while the nunchuk will control force powers, possibly causing your head to explode from excitement. Look for a broomstick attachment for recreating Star Wars Kid moments.

Strap on your Yoda backpacks and book a flight to the Dagobah system, you may have to prove yourself at the next nerd convention:

The Wii version, in development by Krome Studios, will also add an exclusive duel mode in which players can compete head-to-head with their friends to determine the ultimate Jedi Master.

Messiah

Rather bold name for any brand.

Pretty cool looking, but the last thing my coffee table needs is another remote cluttering it. But it glows?! I’ll stick with using the PS3 controller.

Hotel Tomo

$95 a night is already a steal. Especially in San Fran, especially in a hipster hotel!

Take a stroll through San Francisco’s Nihonmachi, and you sense a vibrant, animé-inspired energy pulsing through the streets of the country’s most thriving Japanese-American community. The ‘hood is chock full of Eastern-influenced architecture, art galleries, Kimono shops and hidden culinary gems—while located just a short hop stop from the bustle of Union Square.

So where should you stay to experience it best? The newly opened Hotel Tomo. Inspired by Japanese pop culture, this boutique hotel features an original mural from Giant Robot fave Heisuke Kitazawa in every guest room, along with a docking station for your iPod, a flatscreen TV and a beanbag chair. There are also gaming suites where you can watch animé movies or play Wii games on six-foot LCD projection screens, and for chow hounds, Mum’s Restaurant, a funky spot that’s known for its amazing all-you-can-eat shabu shabu.

Because they love us (and you!) so much, the good people at Hotel Tomo are offering Pulse readers a special rate of $95 a night on a deluxe king room, subject to availability. Which means you can save your hard-earned coin for more important things, like lots of sake. Just enter the access code “GENART” when you book online, or mention the rate code “D-GENA” to get in on this hot deal!

Here’s a geek sugar video taking a tour of the gaming suites.

mario sex ed

It’s hard to tell if this sex education video is legit. Hilarious Mario voice over, weak Luigi. The ghosts are quite a good representation of sperm!

nintendo m82

This piece of Nintendo history sold on ebay for $1,526 last month. Apparently less than 200 of the Nintendo M82 NES System 12 game selecters were manufactured and they were never availble for purchase. By my calculations, this guy would need about 56 M82s….

On a related note, I picked up Tecmo Bowl and Ice Hockey on the Wii Virtual Console this weekend. Both are definitely worth the $5.

Pimped Nintendo DS

Pick up exclusive Mario and Princess Bling Skins when you buy a Nintendo DS at Target. Unfortunately they’re not sold separately. I really need to replace my Nintendogs skin (which is straight outta gay gamer).

Solar wii on wheels

Remote Wii

Tom’s Hardware Guide built a solar powered, mobile Wii setup and took it for a stroll on the Venice boardwalk. Pretty nifty and $1,431.17 isn’t a bad price, especially considering they used a $700 HD monitor.

Check out video of the unit in action.
