Digisketch

A cool real time sketch. Being horrible at drawing, I appreciate seeing how it’s done.

Fan restores ‘Christmas Story’ house

Christmas Story house

Brian Jones (no, not that Brian Jones) purchased the house on ebay, restored it to it’s appearance in the movie and now offers tours. No word on if the tour includes a pack of dogs running through the kitchen.

Brian also sells the infamous leg lamps featured in the movie. $129.99 for the 45-inch model, $159.99 for the 53-inch “deluxe full size” leg lamp.

In other Christmas Story news, I was disappointed to see it’s use in a commercial yesterday. Here’s Cingular’s spoof commercial on youtube.

Aibo Dance

Gen Art and Pet Style hosted a short film contest and showed them Thursday night at the Raleigh in Miami Beach. Got to bring the Boston Terrier and drink free Stella, so it was hard to pass up.
I thought Pet Style was a new cable channel, but apparently it’s purely online for now.

Anyway, I was very impressed by two of the films, not so much by the others. Mirage won the overall prize and $5,000. The animation was fantastic, especially considering it was largely a one-man effort. However my favorite was Man’s New Best Friend, which culminates in an Aibo dance with “Together in Electric Dreams” as the soundtrack. Check out both films on Pet Style

Waffle House

First the Alabama teen banging his drunk mom in her trailer to piss off his brother, now this!

Nude Couple’s Feud Ends at Waffle House
    By Associated Press
    Sat Nov 4, 5:29 AM

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - No shirt, no service? What about no clothes at all? A couple that began squabbling in a motel room Friday morning carried their dispute over to an adjacent Waffle House restaurant in the nude, police said.

The woman, who was not identified, told officers she was staying in a room with Larry Boyd when he took a hit of cocaine, started trashing their room and choked her.

She ran in the buff to the nearby restaurant and locked herself in the bathroom. Boyd, also naked, followed her into the restaurant and then fled in a car.

He was arrested, still naked, after a short chase by police and was charged with driving under the influence and felony evading arrest, among other charges. It was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney.

Nielsen cancels commercial ratings plans

Sunday, November 5th, 2006

It’s obvious that keeping up with technology is a problem with rating what people view. As a friend who works for Nielsen writes:

“I really think its next to impossible to gauge what people are truly watching on TV. I know that Nielsen does a good job of getting all kinds of people repersented in their overnight ratings service. Its just that they really need more houses in America taking part in the process. And with viewership splintering to more and more niche networks its hard to get a feel of what people are watching. Also this time shifting is a real problem because people do fast forward though the commercials and commercials pay the bills as we know.”

“My job at work is going to change within the next 18 months or so as we move to a more online based way of gathering names from the stations to the current way we get that info now which is pretty archaic. Nielsen has always tried to stay up to date with technology its just that in the last 5 years or so the technology has just come out so fast its getting harder for Nielsen to stay up with it all. “

Let’s just keep telling the advertisers that we really are watching those commercials….

Candy cornholing

Friday, October 27th, 2006

While homemade-sex-toys.com may sound dangerous, it’s entertaining and worth a browse.

Halloween is here and what better way to celebrate then a candy corn dildo or buttplug! In fact, there’s a whole subsection of Halloween toys. Thinking of the lab these are created in and seeing the photos is a little creepy.

Beard Championships

I sport a beard about half the time, but until now, haven’t thought of it in a competitive manner.

“The mission of Beard Team USA is to make the United States competitive at the bi-annual World Beard and Moustache Championships. Team USA is already gearing up for the next championships, which will take place in Brighton, England, on September 1, 2007, to be hosted by London’s world-famous Handlebar Club. “

A pretty complete site, including a blog and merchandise, and of course, plenty of great facial hair photos.

The Fillmore Southeast?

Jackie Gleason Theater

I’d like to have been in the meeting when this idea came up. “Adding the word Fillmore to the venue name will definitely increase attendence!” I’d have suggested “Super Terrific Fun-time Jackie Gleason Theater” though.

“The (Miami) Herald reported that Live Nation, the top U.S. concert promoter, said they would rename the South Beach venue “The Fillmore Miami Beach at the Incredible Jackie Gleason Theater” in an effort to put a more modern spin on the venue.”

GRINDHOUSE

“Two full length feature horror movies written by Quentin Tarantino & Robert Rodriguez put together as a two film features. Including fake movie trailers in between both movies.”

Also, if you haven’t been, check out Apple’s collection of trailers. Includes fantastic hi-def versions of many. I highly recommend spiderman 3(now pulled?) or borat

YouTube Founders on the recent sale

I guess I’d be excited coming into hundreds of millions too. Apparently the ‘two kings’ comment is a play on the recent teaming of Burger King and Diddy.

God to again do Cocaine

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

Eric Clapton

Eric Clapton will again play “Cocaine” in concert. I’m surprised becoming sober didn’t make him play it more since it’s very anti-cocaine.

“I thought that it might be giving the wrong message to people who were in the same boat as me,” Clapton recently told The Associated Press.”

“But further investigation proved … the song, if anything, if it’s not even ambivalent, it’s an anti-drug song. And so I thought that might be a better way to do it, to approach it from a more positive point of view. And carry on performing it as not a pro-drug song, but just as a reality check about what it does.”

Underestimating the power of Borat and MySpace

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

borat_poster.jpg

MySpace held a special screening of the new Ali G/Borat movie last night in various locations around the country. In order to get in, you needed to add two specially made profiles to your Friend’s List ‘Top 8′ and bring a copy of your profile as your ticket.

I arrived about 45 minutes before doors opened to find a fairly large line. After waiting an hour and a half, the line cut off 20 people in front of me. Even a guy behind me dressed in a yellow Ali G sweatsuit and all the accessories was denied!

Apparently the lines were even worse in other cities.
