An offer you can’t refuse

Friday, December 8th, 2006
“Home listing site Zillow is making it possible to shop for homes that are not necessarily for sale with their new Make Me Move function, which launches on Thursday. Home owners who may have no intention of moving, but certainly would for the right price, can list information about their homes on Make Me Move so that gutsy buyers can try to make a deal.”

A cool idea, but will it work? I imagine most of the listings will be massively overpriced.

Yoko Ono at The Sagamore

XM radio was fairly lowkey with their Art Basel party at The Sagamore with Yoko Ono. However it still had the South Beach touches. 3 private VIP areas for Yoko, some paparazzi, the star guest showing her face for 5 minutes, standard music(no beatles) and an Ingrid Casares sighting.

Yoko’s video installation played on flatscreens throughout the hotel. Also pictured are Sagamore owners Marty and Cricket Taplin, avid art collectors, who keep the hotel filled with many of their pieces.

Rabbit blimp

balloons
As part of Art Basel, the “Skywalker” art blimp parade took place on south beach today. The lineup showcased dirigibles designed by Ara Peterson, Misaki Kawai, Friends With You, Paper Rad, Mumbleboy, David Choe, and Devilrobots

Sadly no R2D2’s or ewoks. But they definitely made up for it. Here’s a few. Shoot me an email if you’d like full-size versions.

knife gun

Looks like it shoots by pressing the button on the bottom of the handle.

Not much info on the link, but I’m sure anyone who actually needs one, knows where to get one.

The quikpod, yet another gadget ending in ‘pod’

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

quikpod

add ‘pod’ to the name and watch sales skyrocket? Notice they also jump on the youtube bandwagon in their sales video.

I definitely could have used this while taking photos, but is it worth carrying around? I like the idea of using it to get shots above the crowd at concerts, however not many places will allow you to bring in what is essentially an extendable baton. $25, $5 more for legs.

Music Light show

This box can control 7,200 lights and 20 different pre-programmed Christmas carols. That should be a good start.

Make your own wine, just like in prison

WinePod

Well minus the fermented orange drink and toilet bowl.

“The WinePod integrates fermentation, pressing, and ageing in one elegant unit yet it is simple and easy to use. The WinePod collects and transmits fermentation and temperature data wirelessly to your PC where our software offers winemaking guidance and manages your processes and records.”

bad news though, it’s sold out and when you do get one, it’ll run $3,499. That’s a lot of two buck chuck.

pipe screen
This Tobias Wong Tim E. Dubitsky designer pipe screen is debuting at Art Basel at the J Deitch/Paper Magazine Art Store. I’ll try to pick one up or at least get some photos on Thursday

update: These were actually made by Tim E. Dubitsky and edited by Tobias Wong. Looks like core77 corrected this mistake as well.

A cool real time sketch. Being horrible at drawing, I appreciate seeing how it’s done.

Discovery Atlas

Sure Engadget HD has high-def news, but the daily listings of every HD show across the board is nice. Breaks it down by channel and video mode (720p, 1080i, etc).

Yoko joins XM, throws Art Basel party

Monday, December 4th, 2006

Yoko

“Offstage with Yoko Ono” is set to premiere today at 6pm on The Loft (ch 50) as part of XM Satellite Radio’s ongoing “Offstage” original music series.”
“The exclusive multi-part special will feature Ono with complete creative control selecting the music of her choice and speaking openly about whatever she chooses. In conjunction with the show’s debut, XM will be hosting an event during Art Basel at Social Miami at Sagamore.”

Found out today I’ll be attending that Sagamore event. I’ll try to update with some pics afterwards.

Santa's Butt

The Maine Bureau of Liquor Enforcement found 3 beer bottle labels ‘undignified’ and refuses to allow their sale. One shows Santa’s backside, another uses the Eugene Delacroix painting “Liberty leading the people,” which hangs in the Louvre.

“In the Maine suit, the Maine Civil Liberties Union argues that the “undignified or improper” standard is overly broad and vague. The lawsuit requests approval for the three labels, and also asks that the “undignified or improper” rule be invalidated.”

You many have noticed none of the permalinks are working (categories aren’t either).

After many calls to 1and1.com I was informed that their latest WordPress update has a bug. So until that’s fixed, I’m SOL.

Tough breaks

Friday, December 1st, 2006

It used to be hard to find the video of LT destroying Joe Theisman’s leg and career, but the popularity of youtube and it’s imitators have opened the vault doors on many a VHS collection.

Here’s a top ten list put together by uncle buck. view these at your own risk. I can watch almost anything the net serves up, but broken bones always get me.
