Black Friday fall

I heard every EB Games is getting a shipment of Nintendo Wiis in time for their 7am opening tomorrow. I’m going to mosey down to one at 6:30am (the earliest I’ve been up in months) to see if I can score a Wii and Excite Truck (yes I’m nearing 30). Hopefully I don’t have to plow any old ladies to the ground on my way to the register.

update:I was 3rd in a line of 10 this morning (Black Friday) and got one of the 5 Wiis they had. The controller works better than I could have imagined and the included Sports Pack is a good starting point for what could be a nice evolutionary branch of gaming controllers.

Fry me some turkey

Turkey Frying Fire

Since our tailgate group is frying a turkey tomorrow and I’ve never seen this done, I thought I’d look into it. As we’ll be around many cars and canopies, hopefully the apparently common fire doesn’t break out.

update: all went well, turkey was excellent, Miami beat Boston College.

Chill to soothe tired eyes and reduce eye puffiness. Warm to relive sinus pressure or just for a nap. The taxidermist stuffed this guy with lavender, chamomile and flax seed(for weight).

Now you can cruise the ‘casual encounters’ section at warp speed!

As someone who’s found numerous apts, chairs, couches and ‘other’ on CL, this is an amazing time-saving tool.

Reverse shower

3 posts in a row on water, must be hydrophile week. This concept is a sharp idea though, I especially like the weight activation.

However, I see a few problems:
-the hair is really the hardest body part to get fully wet, thus keep it close to the water source
-the holes might easily clog as dirt runs over them
-looks like there’s no temperature options

warning, the designer went a little flash crazy with their site.

Cool, blue water

lighted faucet

Produces a pretty neat effect. The light is activated by water pressure, cutting out when you turn off the sink. Perhaps the best part is that it installs in less than a minute. The thought of a battery in the area my water passes through is concerning though.

Greenpeace South Park

Greenpeace put together this South Park video with the boys as sea creatures to support the Bottom Trawling UN moratorium. The writing could be a bit better, but the animation is plenty entertaining.

International satellite radio doomed?

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

Until today I wasn’t aware that a third satellite radio company, WorldSpace, existed. Probably because it covers Europe, Asia and Africa.
Sounds like they have a lot of work to do, they aren’t even available in vehicles yet.

Flower urinal

Clark Sorenson makes some pretty urinals. Flowers, shells, pitcher plants.

He makes tableware as well, though you may want to give it a good scrubbing.

Mutilated Manatee

Sunday, November 12th, 2006

Sadly that is not the name of the lastest hip band. Some sick fucks attacked and killed a wild manatee in Homestead, FL.

“Officers say the suspects probably captured the animal, measuring roughly six feet long and between 500 and 600 pounds late Thursday or early Friday before cutting its throat and cutting off its fins.”

Homeless in Miami Beach

About 5 days ago a man and woman literally started living in the street across the road from my building. I live in a decent area, but there are a few low-rent apts hanging on. Apparently these two were evicted and set up right on the sidewalk either out of protest or having nowhere else to go.

Cops pass by them daily, but don’t seem to care. The occasional passerby (as shown above) stops and talks with the lady (hidden behind the boxes) but usually leave looking more confused.

update: a Miami Beach ‘neighborhood services’ van came and helped them move the belongings-to where, I may never know.

Aibo Dance

Gen Art and Pet Style hosted a short film contest and showed them Thursday night at the Raleigh in Miami Beach. Got to bring the Boston Terrier and drink free Stella, so it was hard to pass up.
I thought Pet Style was a new cable channel, but apparently it’s purely online for now.

Anyway, I was very impressed by two of the films, not so much by the others. Mirage won the overall prize and $5,000. The animation was fantastic, especially considering it was largely a one-man effort. However my favorite was Man’s New Best Friend, which culminates in an Aibo dance with “Together in Electric Dreams” as the soundtrack. Check out both films on Pet Style

Waffle House

First the Alabama teen banging his drunk mom in her trailer to piss off his brother, now this!

Nude Couple’s Feud Ends at Waffle House
    By Associated Press
    Sat Nov 4, 5:29 AM

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – No shirt, no service? What about no clothes at all? A couple that began squabbling in a motel room Friday morning carried their dispute over to an adjacent Waffle House restaurant in the nude, police said.

The woman, who was not identified, told officers she was staying in a room with Larry Boyd when he took a hit of cocaine, started trashing their room and choked her.

She ran in the buff to the nearby restaurant and locked herself in the bathroom. Boyd, also naked, followed her into the restaurant and then fled in a car.

He was arrested, still naked, after a short chase by police and was charged with driving under the influence and felony evading arrest, among other charges. It was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney.

Nielsen cancels commercial ratings plans

Sunday, November 5th, 2006

It’s obvious that keeping up with technology is a problem with rating what people view. As a friend who works for Nielsen writes:

“I really think its next to impossible to gauge what people are truly watching on TV. I know that Nielsen does a good job of getting all kinds of people repersented in their overnight ratings service. Its just that they really need more houses in America taking part in the process. And with viewership splintering to more and more niche networks its hard to get a feel of what people are watching. Also this time shifting is a real problem because people do fast forward though the commercials and commercials pay the bills as we know.”

“My job at work is going to change within the next 18 months or so as we move to a more online based way of gathering names from the stations to the current way we get that info now which is pretty archaic. Nielsen has always tried to stay up to date with technology its just that in the last 5 years or so the technology has just come out so fast its getting harder for Nielsen to stay up with it all. “

Let’s just keep telling the advertisers that we really are watching those commercials….
