In Russia, vodka should be cheaper than any of those liquids used as substitutes!

“Fourteen towns in the Irkutsk region of Siberia have declared a state of emergency, amid a dramatic upsurge in mass poisonings caused by fake vodka. Almost 900 people in the region are in hospital with liver failure, apparently after drinking industrial solvent. They say the most common substances are de-icers, anti-rust treatments and window-cleaning solutions.”

Found these today at the local Japanese market(North Bay Village(Miami), FL). Cute packaging, and pretty tasty. I haven’t started hallucinating yet.

So far I’m loving Songbird. It’s only at version 0.2 and it crashed on me within my first 2 hours of previewing it, but it’s features are fabulous. This media player is built on the same platform as firefox and plays local and online music. Go to any web site and it will scan the page finding the media and showing a playlist. Click on any of the songs, play it, pause it, download it to your library. A built-in search box includes Singingfish, elbo.ws and others.

I sport a beard about half the time, but until now, haven’t thought of it in a competitive manner.

I’d like to have been in the meeting when this idea came up. “Adding the word Fillmore to the venue name will definitely increase attendence!” I’d have suggested “Super Terrific Fun-time Jackie Gleason Theater” though.

“The (Miami) Herald reported that Live Nation, the top U.S. concert promoter, said they would rename the South Beach venue “The Fillmore Miami Beach at the Incredible Jackie Gleason Theater” in an effort to put a more modern spin on the venue.”

Hanson got Jesse when the dog was 4 months old, she said. When Hanson lost her leg, she trained Jesse to assist her.

A history of how NASCAR came to be. Moonshiners running from the Feds needed fast cars and even better driving skills. Many things today’s corporate NASCAR doesn’t like to acknowledge. And perhaps solving the great Chevy vs Ford debate, it’s revealed that the first car of choice was the Ford V-8.

Some other interesting revelations:
-The South didn’t have pro sports(which obviously helped racing grow) until the Braves moved to Atlanta in 1965.
-The early Daytona track was just A1A and the actual beach.
-The first champion, Red Byron, had to have his badly damaged leg(WW II) attached to his clutch.

Men’s Journal picked their top 25 U.S. Beers. Happy to see my favorite brewery, New Glarus(#25 Yokel), making the list. I can also attest to the Sprecher brewery(#17 Hefe Weiss) having a very nice tour and sampling.

Comfort is coming. For the rich anyway(aka ‘BusinessElite’). Hopefully it’ll trickle down to us peons within a decade. The pictured seat reclines into a 6 foot 3 inch bed. An added benefit is no children or obese folks with lovehandles seeping over the armrest seated next to you.
